NEW OPTICAL SCAN VOTING EQUIPMENT: Gone are the days of the old mechanical lever machines that were used for so many years! New optical scan voting equipment is now utilized as a result of the Help America Vote Act. Wayne County will employ the M-100 voting machines supplied by Election Systems & Software.
Voters will be directed to a voting station to mark their ballot and will then insert their own ballot into the voting machine. The optical scan equipment will accept the ballot and it is dropped into a locked bin. The optical scan equipment can detect an error in voting, such as an overvote. Should this happen, the voter will be offered a new ballot to complete. The new equipment allows for a much smoother election and a much faster tally at the end of the night.
