The Riverview Fire Department was established in 1923 as a Civil Defense Fire Force under Monguagon Township, Village of Riverview. The fire department was surrounded by Ecorse Township and at the time the response area included areas of what is now Brownstown Township.
The Village was home to a Nike Missle site to which the current fire station is located today.
The Riverview Fire Department was one of the first departments in the Downriver area to provide Advanced First Aid and Ambulance transports. |

Over the years the department has progressed into a full service Fire Department, providing Fire, Advanced Life Support, Haz-Mat, and WMD protection.
Serving an area of 4.6 square miles the 2005 run volume exceeded over 1700 runs. |

Staff Education:
All personnel are trained and certified Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operation level.
All personnel are trained Emergency Responders to Terrorism Events.
16 personnel have traveled to Texas A&M complements of the Arkema Chemical Facility and hold certificates in Basic and Advanced Industrial Fire Brigade.

Fire Inspection Division
The department has one Fire Marshal that is responsible for plan reviews, fire inspections, fire investigations, and fire / life safety. Currently the the Fire Inspection Division utilizes the 2003 edition of the International Fire Code as the primary code enforcement as adopted, along with local City Ordinance.

New Fire Truck
|
| In just several weeks the department will be recieving a new state of the art fire truck. A recent trip to the factory in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania for a build inspection noted that this unit will have capabilities like no other.Scheduled to be delivered near the end of May, it will be on display and a demonstarion of its capabilities will be made at the Summerfest and Fire Department open house on June 27th 2008. Please come out and share the experiance.

Auto Defib Donation
|
| Thanks to the efforts of the Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Cardiac Cath Lab an Automatic Defibrillator none as an AED has been donated for the golf course club house. This unit will be avaible to the staff in the event of a cardiac arrest situation.

The City of riverview Fire Department is proud to acknowledge its Fire Marshal Mitch Jensen.
Mitch retired as a Captian from the City of Trenton Fire Department after serving 28 years. Mitch originally started with Riverview as a Communications Officer, and then was promoted to Fire Marshal. Mitch has been instumental in recieving donations for smoke detectors, stuffed animals for children that are sick or injured, and most recently has instituted the Safe Delivery Program which allows for unwanted infants to be turned over to the department for State assistance. Mitch and his wife Laura who is the Trenton / Woodhaven Animal Control officer reside in Trenton, but both are very active in the City of Riverview and the Fire Department.
