Riverview Fire Department History

The Building authority commissioned the construction of the current fire station built in 1969. It was dedicated under the 1969 Fire Chief Don Hiefield. The Riverview Fire department was originally established in 1923 as a civil defense Fire Force, for Monguagon township (which was the township which Riverview was previously called). The Village was home to a Nike Missile site to which the current fire station is located today. The Fire force responded to Emergency events from Ecorse to Brownstown. The 1923 station was one of the first stations to have advanced First Aide and Ambulance transportation in the Downriver area. Since its founding in 1923, the Riverview Fire Department has progressed from the civil defense Fire Force into a Full service Fire Department. Staffed 24-hours a day and 365-days a year, by professional Firefighters and Paramedics providing rapid effective service. Riverview Firefighters are diverse, hard working team of professionals and are dedicated to the preservation of life or the protection of property for residents of our community. The Unique organizational makeup of our Fire Department keeps us available to respond, at any time, to diverse issues and to any call of assistance within our Community. They maintain economical functionality for the City of Riverview and its Businesses or Residents. The Fire Departments personnel are highly trained and equipped to safely respond to any and all incidents involving, but not limited to fire suppression (both residential and commercial), hazardous material incidents, Terrorism events, industrial or vehicular accidents, which would involve extrication and has "Two" advanced Life supporting ambulances. As Always, our goal is to serve the public in a proficient and professional manner. Also, continuously striving to improve the quality of our service and modernize all if the Fire house resources. the Fire Department serves an area of 4.4 square miles the 2005 run volume exceeded over 1700 runs.

Staff Education:

All personnel are trained and certified Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operation level.

All personnel are trained Emergency Responders to Terrorism Events.

16 personnel have traveled to Texas A&M compliments of the Arkema Chemical Facility and hold certificates in Basic and Advanced Industrial Fire Brigade.

Fire Inspection Division

The department has one Fire Marshal that is responsible for plan reviews, fire inspections, fire investigations, and fire / life safety. Currently the the Fire Inspection Division utilizes the 2003 edition of the International Fire Code as the primary code enforcement as adopted, along with local City Ordinance.
