The City of Riverview provides one rubbish toter cart per single family. Each single family is limited to the toter plus the equivalent of 10 bushels of household rubbish per week. Additional toters may be leased through the City of Riverview by calling 281-4270. If you need a repair or replacement for your toter, please call the D.P.W. at 281-4270 Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Additionally, portable waste receptacles that meet the following guidelines may be used:
- Portable waste receptacles shall not weigh more than 50 lbs. when full, nor be larger than thirty-two (32) gallons liquid capacity.
- Portable waste receptacles must have handles.
Acceptable Household Rubbish consists of routine household debris along with furniture and appliances. Please remember that all rubbish (including ashes from grills, sawdust, insulation, drywall dust, etc.) must be in plastic bags before being placed in receptacles. Please note, any acceptable items that are placed outside of the toter cart will not be picked up when the toter is emptied - they will be picked up later the same day by the bulk pick-up truck.
Items such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and de-humidifiers can be disposed of by contacting a heating and cooling contractor and having the freon properly removed. Once the item is properly tagged by a licensed contractor, it can be set out with your regular rubbish for collection. Remember to secure or remove all refrigerator and freezer doors and lids. You may also drop off these items at the Riverview Land Preserve yourself without the freon being removed, for a fee. Please call the Riverview Land Preserve for information on fees at 734-281-4263 ext.5928.
The following is considered Unacceptable Waste:
- Automobile Parts/Fluids/Tires
- Drums/Barrels and like containers
- Flammable or volatile liquids
Please contact the Riverview Land Preserve at (734) 281.4263 for information on proper disposal of these items.
All receptacles shall be placed for disposal no earlier than 5:00 p.m. on the day preceding collection. It is recommended that receptacles be placed out in the evening prior to disposal due to the fact that pick up can start as early as 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled pick up day.
All receptacles shall be moved to within the confines of the property lines of the residence or establishment thereon within twelve (12) hours after the contents of the same have been removed by the department of public works, or its agents, and shall be concealed from public view.
